Volkswagen SP2 Sports Coupe (1972-76)

Volkswagen SP2, named after the Brazilian city Sao Paulo and pronounced ‘Esspeedois'. In the 70s, the Brazilian market was closed for imports. The Volkswagen subsidiary in Brazil, Volkswagen do Brazil, always had some degree of independence from the parent company in Wolfsburg, so in 1969 they decided to start a new project of their own. Powered by an air-cooled 1.7 litre engine producing just 75bhp. 10,205 were built before production was stopped in 1976. Even after 40 years, its dramatic shape and stunning styling spark attention wherever it goes.
